Les aventures de Sophie et Theo

After leaving my now extended family for almost 48h to get back to school I drove back to Denver tonight to spend the week-end with everybody. I found a healthy Kristine who calls herself a cow as she's producing more milk now. When I left on Wednesday evening we were collecting drops of colostrum up to 1ml. Now she's collecting 30ml of milk, which is still tiny but 30 times more. Babies are doing well and eating more and more. They should now start gaining weight, after a normal loss for the first few days. This week-end we are staying in a family room provided by the hospital for free two nights a week. For those wondering, although the pictures are quite impressive with all that technology connected to them the little ones are doing really good for their stage of development. They were born at 32 weeks. They are both right under 4lbs and around 16inches tall. On the pictures on can see a tube to feed them via IV and a tube that goes to their stomach for breast milk. Right now they get 8cc of milk every 3h are are digesting well. The rest is simply monitoring their vitals (blood pressure, heart, O2 saturation, respiratory rate) Pour ceux qui trouvent les photos impressionnantes quelques explications rassurantes. Les bébés vont très bien. Ils sont nés à 32 semaines, donc largement prématurés. Ils seront en soins intensifs pour 4 semaines si tout va bien. Tous ces tuyaux les font ressembler un peu à des cosmonautes, ou des plongeurs. Ils ont un tube qui descend dans l'estomac pour les nourrir avec du lait.
